Alternative Diet without Sacrificing Hunger and Satisfaction

It is known that everyone practices diet early since one’s birth, from infancy onwards. There are different types of diets such as for gaining weight, maintaining a stable body weight, and in most cases, losing weight.
Alternative diet programs mostly focus on how one can improve his health by eating or avoiding certain foods. Different diets offer various benefits. Some diets are intended to reduce a person’s risk of developing health problems and more so, prevent illnesses and diseases. Some are for improving the overall health of an individual and others attempt to improve physical and/or mental well-being.
Perhaps, one of the reasons people do engage into alternative diet programs these days is due to the continuous advancement in technology that the world is undergoing. Since many areas are becoming industrialized, therefore prone to pollution, they realize how these environment changes affect their bodies and the foods they eat including the risks.
Certain alternative diets are said to be safe only when such are practiced in moderation. However, diets that restrict food choices or exclude certain food groups can cause nutritional deficiencies or health problems.
On the other light, when do alternative diets cause harm to practitioners?
It is a fact that people who are into alternative diets tend to suffer from hunger because they deprive themselves from eating more than what they usually eat. What they are unconscious about is that they have just the normal food intake and are only overshadowed by such mindset that they are in a diet.
Many are too conscious of their bodies, worrying too much about gaining weight. But, they overlook that dieting without choosing the right alternative diet program is unproductive.
Another reality about alternative diet is that eating satisfaction is sacrificed. The normal amount they consume before compared to what they consume when in alternative diets is more probably smaller in quantity. They crave for more but simply cannot demand for more.
Worst thing, the nutrition they could obtain is also sacrificed because of exclusion of certain food groups in several diets. Practitioners follow the program but are not satisfied with the food quantity and nutrition.
Here are some tips on how to practice alternative diets effectively:
- Choose the right diet for you – the one to which you can stick to.
It is not important if many people have tried doing it or if it has been really effective. What matter is: it is appropriate to your body and you can strictly observe such and religiously follow so.
- Be physically active.
Have some regular exercise. Physical activity is good for you whether you are trying to lose weight or not, so keep it positive and build a lifelong habit.
- Practice diet in moderation.
Do not starve yourself. Losing weight does not happen overnight. Be persistent in following your planned and programmed diet.
- Drink plenty of water or other calorie-free beverages.
People sometimes confuse thirst with hunger. So, you can end up eating extra calories when an ice-cold glass of water is really what you need.
- Know if you are really hungry.
Whenever you feel like eating, look for physical signs of hunger. Hunger is your body’s way of telling you that you need fuel, so when a craving does not come from hunger, eating will never satisfy it.
- Never skip meals.
Eating less actually makes it more difficult to lose weight. Skipping meals is not recommended. In fact, if you skip meals, you may find you eat more when you do eat and this may lead to a larger stomach capacity. Studies show that stomach capacity can increase if large individual meals are eaten. This can then increase the amount of food you need at each meal before you feel ‘full’.
The bottom line, alternative diets should be done with discipline and positive attitude. It should be kept in mind that healthy body also requires a healthy mind. Alternative diet, therefore, should be practiced without sacrificing hunger and satisfaction to yield optimum results.
