Lost on a leaf - אבוד על עלה

Pests are naturally attracted to vegetable and flower garden. So, you will always find various pests in your garden. Now, if you intend to eat the vegetables you grow in your garden, you probably prefer not to eat anything that was sprayed with chemicals. You probably want to make sure that everything that comes out of your garden is organic.

Using Natural Pest Repellants

Luckily, you can use natural methods to kill garden pests. There are natural repellants that you can make yourself. Natural pest control will certainly benefit you in the long run. You will end up with food products that are healthier for you and your family. The added bonus is that you won’t have to spend a lot of money just to kill those pesky pests.

Billions of kilos of pesticides are being used in lawns, gardens and farms worldwide. Unfortunately, most of the soil contaminations that occur actually originate from private homes where people use chemical pesticides on their lawns and gardens. They place their health and the environment at great risk.

Natural Methods to Kill Garden Pests

To avoid using harmful chemicals, there are some natural pest control measures that you can adopt.

First of all, you should make sure that your garden is clean and healthy at all times. In the first place, if your garden is far from being healthy, your plants will not really grow properly. So, check if you have prepared the soil well. Are you adding compost to add nutrients to the soil? Make sure that the pH is correct. Also, check if there is sufficient drainage.

You should immediately remove dying or weak plants and dispose of weeds or composts. Pests are naturally attracted to decaying matters, so always keep your garden clean. Clear off objects that can decay. You should also try to regularly add mulch and compost on the top of the garden’s soil in order to help your plants grow sturdier and healthier, but remember to use clean mulch as well.

One of the most natural ways of promoting quick growth without resorting to chemicals is to spray your garden with seaweed fertilizers. This is fairly good for promoting the soil strength. Another good way of killing off insects that attack specific plants is to rotate crops. This will keep off repeated infection. This will also prevent infection of other surrounding areas.

Usually, wet foliages attract insects and fungi. One way to prevent growth of fungi in plants is to water your garden during the mornings. Your plants will have plenty of time to dry. However, if you do notice a fungi-infected plant, you should immediately remove the same before it infects other plants and leaves. You should also consider disinfecting your garden tools before you use them in uninfected plants.

You can definitely use natural methods to kill garden pests. You don’t have to always resort to chemicals. Neither should you resort to chemical fertilizers to help your plants grow. Going the natural method is always the best option. Of course, you can always argue otherwise.

Water

Droughts may not be your concern, but it certainly is a major concern for many people in a lot of countries. Clean running water is a luxury to some people. There are many people who will never experience continuous supply of running water.  However, if you have this luxury, you probably take this for granted. You probably will never know the real value of water conservation, but it’s not too late to learn now. You can start learning by taking note of these indoor water saving tips below.

Turn Off Your Faucet!

You don’t have to leave the water running while you do something. There are many people – chefs included – who are fond of leaving the tap on even if they don’t really need the water. They are just way too lazy to think of actually turning off the faucet.  They don’t like to bother with turning the tap on when they finally need the water. This is why this piece of advice still needs to be included in a list of indoor water saving tips. It is also a good idea to get an aerator for your faucets, so the water will mix with air and less water will come out of the faucets or taps.

Shorter Showers Will Do the Trick!

If you are used to taking long showers, you should definitely start learning to take shorter ones.  It is also a great idea to change your showerhead into one with a low water flow.  This will not even cost you a lot of money, but you will certainly see a difference in your water consumption. If you choose your showerhead right, you will not even notice a change in the flow of water. In fact, why not get a shower that will allow you to increase or decrease the water flow as you require? In truth, this shouldn’t be a part of any list of indoor water saving tips because it only requires common sense to know this.

There are times when you want to take a hot shower that cold water initially comes out.  You probably avoid this and you just let the shower run until the water finally warms up.  It is a good idea to collect the cold water. You can then later on use this to water your garden or clean your car with.  It is a good idea to have a pail on hand.

These are just few of our indoor water saving tips. Look out for more of these sensible tips.  If you have your own ideas, we definitely would like to hear it. So, leave us a comment.

Recycle

So, you have finally decided to adopt a green lifestyle? But have you considered getting people to do the same? Have you considered including other people in the process. Not everyone is eco-savvy as you are. Although, it is nice to talk about recycling, not everyone has the heart for it. People rarely do anything to reduce their ecological footprints. Many refuse to take responsibilities for their own footprints. So, do you know how to influence people to recycle?

Raising Eco-Friendly Consciousness

Learning how to influence people to recycle without offending anyone can be a bit tricky.  As I’ve said, most folks rarely give any thought to recycling. However, this should not deter you from adopting measures in order to bring eco-friendly consciousness forward.  This is why it is very important to find a public forum that accepts environmental issues.

How do you do this?  How do you talk to people about green issues?

First of all, you need to learn the art of subtlety. People do not want to feel that an idea is being crammed into their throat. They want to feel that they are the ones who come up with a particular idea in the first place. So, avoid being preachy in your approach. You can be enthusiastic about the countless benefits of living a green lifestyle; however, your enthusiasm can do the opposite if you don’t know how to properly approach people with green ideas. It is especially annoying if your enthusiasm is misinterpreted. You may come across as a know-it-all or a show off. So, learn how to handle approaching people of green issues.

Influencing People by Example?

They always say that the best method of teaching people about something is to show them by example. If you want to get people to opt for organic foods, you should consider inviting people in for dinner and serving the organic foods. You may not convert a processed-food fan, but you will at least place the idea into their consciousness. If you are going to speak of green topics, bring the issues up with discretion. Avoid irritating people by insisting on the same particular topic for hours on end.

However, you should know the benefits of recycling. You can start influencing your friends. They may be more open to recycling ideas. Aside from the benefits, you also need to know alternative options. People will always ask, “Do I have an alternative?” So always make sure that you have another solution to any green problem at home or at your workplace.

Learning how to influence people to recycle without offending anyone requires devotion.  Aside from the abovementioned tips, do you have more to add?
