Our parents especially our mothers are our first teachers. During our early years, they are the ones whom we actually spend most of our times with. Each touch, hug, kiss and cuddle from them simply means unconditional love, tender loving care and understanding. Without saying a word, we generally know that they will always be there for us. From them, we also learn the basics of the four macro language skills such as: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Education indeed starts at home. Without a doubt, I firmly believe that you also get to learn and adopt your attitude, character, personal image, outlook in life, perceptions and many more from them – the people whom you live at home with. These individuals may be your immediate family, loved ones or relatives. What and who you are today merely reflects the way you were raised before.
Reading to children at an early age can give them a head start when they start school. But parents should not stop reading to children when they do start going to school. They still like to be read to, and it can help to increase their sight vocabulary as well. Parents can also help their children with their reading skills by providing them with reading opportunities. Parents can read their children books, signs, magazines – or anything else that interests them. Teaching children the alphabet whilst they are young, can also help them with their spelling and reading.
Providing children with the right equipment can help with their education. Giving them a quiet place where they can work, read and do homework, with a good reading light and a comfortable chair and desk are just some of these things. Parents can also help their children by proving them with some reference books, and any other relevant learning material they might need.
With that thinking, I want you to read the following lines as they truly happen and make a lot of sense… Children Live What They Learn.
If a child lives with criticism,
He learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility,
He learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule,
He learns to be shy.
If a child lives with jealousy,
He learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with tolerance,
He learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement,
He learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with praise,
He learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness,
He learns justice.
If a child lives with security,
He learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval,
He learns to like himself.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship,
He learns to find life in the world.
More so, the following are specific categories on how a child learns, adopts and lives.
- Education at home – comes from parents, siblings and family;
- Education from media – reflects influences from TV, Internet, video games, newspapers, advertising, politicians and businesses;
- Extra-curricular education – influences from coaches and non-formal teachers, such as a piano teacher, religion teacher or camp counselor;
- Education from social influences – roots from friends, activities with friends, and members of one’s surrounding community; and last but not least,
- Self-education – a kind of interests which one chooses to pursue as a result of their own inclinations and/or influences from any of the categories above.
Now, would you agree? Let me know what’s inside your mind. Speak up and share your thoughts. I’ll be waiting. Thanks.

Home study or home schooling has been around for as long as we can remember. Alexander the Great, we must not forget employed high-brow philosophers for his education at home. Sometime in the last 50 years or so, and since the inception of the Internet, home education has been slowly gaining ground again.
So what is so valuable about studying from home?
A relaxed and familiar environment
If you are studying from home, you don’t have to dress up in uniforms. It is essential, still, to practice good hygiene, but you don’t necessarily have to dress up, especially if you are distance studying on the Internet.
The relaxed and familiar environment which is your home can help you get better grades because there is less stress when you are studying.
You can choose the method that suits you
Study methodology is very important for a student. If you have a special child, it is important that he or she get the best care and education possible. This is why home schooling is so important. The level of focus of the educator to the student is unparalleled.
As a student, or parent of the student, you can choose what methodology you’d like to get that completely suits you or your children.
The online paradigm
Online studies have really opened up education to a lot of people. Today, it does not matter where you are as long as you have an Internet connection at home or at school. Online resources are now at an all time high. The problem that students face now is what course to choose.
There are virtually no barriers to long distance education today.
School is still school
The fact is, home schooling is still school. You will still get an education as long as you are disciplined and determined enough to really learn. Learning is not about getting a uniform and commuting to school from Mondays to Fridays. Learning is getting the right education regardless of distance.
Finally, if you want to study from home, make sure that you apply to an accredited home schooling program. Check with your local education department for more information.
