All work and no play make anyone a dull person! These days people, unwittingly most of the time, tend to live to work instead of working to live. Our society is full of certified workaholics!

Even seemingly “more fun” jobs like being a chef escapes this reality. In fact, being a chef can be more stressful because both physical and intellectual capacities must be used. Unfortunately, because of the love of our job, we sometimes unconsciously forget about our health.

So calling all Chefs of the world! Take off your toques! Lay down your pans and ladles! And have yourself a break and a good time!

Stop Cooking!

Almost the same principle as getting out of the kitchen, this is somewhat an escape from what are familiar and somewhat routine. Once and a while, it will not hurt to stop what you love doing. It will even make you appreciate it better…just like a lover missed!

Get Out of the Kitchen.

Well, it will not be called an escapade if you are not going to escape! Get out of the kitchen and socialize. It would not be so bad to squeeze in a few minutes just chattering with other people, whether they are co-workers or maybe even clients.

Daydream!

Who said dreams are for kids? When you do get that chance when there is nothing to cook, nobody to supervise or zero things to plan, grab it. Dream! Daydream! Think of your sweetheart waiting for you to get out of work so you could meet up.

Imagine that dream holiday vacation of yours, resting at the back of your mind for years. And what about that dream restaurant you are going to own and run after enough savings? Let your mind wander. It will be a good exercise for the brain!

Eat Out In Other Restaurants!

It will not hurt to try other restaurants, hence other chefs’ works. Not only will you be able to “possibly” enjoy a good meal, you will also enjoy the feeling of being served for a change!

All these without the hitches of doing it yourself! Plus, you can get to critic others’ dishes, (and have the right to do so! YOU are a client!) and maybe even get a few tips here and there.

Eat In!

You have always had that knack for preparing great dishes. You even earn from it! But the people closest to you might not have been enjoying it, or even know of it!

You can call in your family or old friends after a day’s work and cook dinner for them. Not only will this provide you a venue to unwind but, more importantly, this can foster a deeper relationship between you and all of them.

Have That Actual Holiday Vacation!

Once in a while do not be tempted by that extra holiday pay and go take that holiday you very much deserve! For sure, you have got reliable chef colleagues that could take over your part for a while. So why not make that dream (you were just imagining about before –refer to previous item) into a reality?

You have been quite good at planning that menu and turning it into a sumptuous feast. Apply that skill into something more pleasurable…and leisure-able!

You do not need to feel guilty about taking a break. You can only reap benefits from being a well rounded person. It does not mean discounting the worth if your job, or the mere value of having a job. In due course, it can help you be a better person, making you a better person for the job.
