How to Properly Use Cast Iron Pans

There are some things that you might want to know about how to properly use these kinds of pans. First of all, before you use them, you need to wash them in hot and soapy water. These pans, however, are rarely washed in this manner. In fact, this is the only time that you can clean your pans this way. Once the pans have been cleansed, you can then pat them dry.

After the pans are completely dry, you can then start applying oil or shortening on its surface.  You cannot use butter shortening however. You should also do the same to their lids if there are any.

This does not end there because you still have to bake your pans. Now, you need to preheat the oven to 350ºF and then placed the pan or pans on the top shelf. Wrap a baking sheet with aluminum foil and then placed that on the bottom. If your pans have lids, you also need to bake them. You need to leave your pans and their lids in the oven for an hour. You can then leave your pans in the oven once the hour is up.

Now, you can definitely use your cast iron pans. Make sure that you keep them clean and learn to wash them properly. With proper maintenance and use, these pans can really serve you well for a lifetime.
