Chopsticks- To Use or Not to Use
Do you like this post?
The question is- Is it worth learning how to use chopsticks?
In my humble opinion for what it is worth; I firmly believe that if you don’t already know how to use chopsticks then it would be extremely beneficial for you to come to grips with the skill. Without a doubt it is well worth taking the time to learn the associated skills. It is a bit like learning how to ride a bike. It is a skill that you will maintain for an eternity.
With the help of globalisation, internet, availability of ingredients etc the popularity of cuisines associated to the use of chopsticks as the eating receptacle has and is continuing to advance in leaps and bounds.
I can tell you that Chinese food actually tastes better when you eat it with chopsticks.
A short while ago I posted an article regarding How to Use Chopsticks here.
If you are a real novice- the best way to get started is to get your hands on a set of chopsticks and give them a whirl. It is best to practise in a private location to eliminate the unnecessary stress factor associated to someone looking over your shoulder- try sitting down at the table and practise picking up peanuts. I got to tell you- if you can pick up peanuts with chopsticks you are well on your way to becoming a seasoned professional when it comes to chopstick usage.
It is recommended to focus on eating stir fry dishes with your newly found skill before you move onto the more challenging noodle and soup dishes.
Some dishes are easier to eat than others as pointed out above. You will learn by trial and error. Be adventurous you are surely going to enjoy the fruits of your labour.
You will find a number of Chinese dishes on this very blog by following the links listed below that you can cook at home and test out your skills with friends and family.

Hi Anna,
It truly amazes me the amount of people that cannot use chopsticks.
They do not realise the taste sensations that they are missing out on.
