Creating a Green Kitchen with These Eco-Friendly Kitchen Tips
Do you like this post?
As chefs, we are especially concerned with our kitchens. We create delicious perfections inside our sanctuaries, so we are quite particular with the equipment and tools we have. However, we really don’t have to give up our preferences; we just have to think “green”. There are so many things that you can do in order to ensure a greener kitchen. Basically, the key lies in reduction of waste production and energy consumption, reusing and recycling of waste materials and use of eco-friendly tools and appliances.
Below are some great eco-friendly kitchen tips that you should consider in order to create a great green workspace for you.
Choosing Your Appliances
You need to choose your kitchen appliances well to promote a healthy environment. You don’t have to get the biggest refrigerator or oven. You will certainly save electricity if you only get the appliances that you really need. Scale down to electricity-saving smaller models. Of course, you may require bigger appliances. However, make sure that you use these appliances properly. Plug off these equipments if you are not using them. In truth, these are actually fairly simple eco-friendly kitchen tips.
You should be inventive, however, with your purchases. For instance, a huge oven consumes a lot of electricity and it is a waste of energy if you will be using a large oven to reheat food. Consider purchasing a smaller oven for this purpose, so the smaller appliance will not consume as much electricity.
Choose Your Kitchen Design Well
It is advisable that when you choose the layout and design of your kitchen, make sure that they are eco-friendly. Choose cabinetries that are made out of recycled or salvage materials. Do not opt for cabinets with formaldehyde or carcinogenic gasses. The same goes for your countertops and floorings. Choose materials that have been recycled. Opt for recycled glass countertops. These things may be pricey but they are durable.
When choosing the interior paints, choose those that have no volatile compounds. There are many paint manufacturers that offer low volatile compound paints.
Use Fluorescent Lights
When people speak of eco-friendly kitchen tips, they would often end up talking about fluorescent lights. These things are cheaper than incandescent bulbs. They are also more environmentally friendly. Remember though to dispose of your lights properly. Look for recyclers that accept CFLs, so they could be disposed of properly.
These are just some of the best eco-friendly kitchen tips that you will find online. Leave us a comment or tell us if there are still things that you feel should be included in this list.
