Facebook- Your IT Social Tool

Since its creation, Facebook went on to become one of the most visited websites in the World Wide Web today. It caters to 140 million users worldwide, most of which are 25 years old and older. And more are joining everyday, regardless of race, age and country.
Facebook, like any social media site, has its uses. Like Twitter- which many believed paved the way for this newest social media platform-, Facebook gives us a chance to connect with friends, family, and other people who have similar interests as ours easily regardless of time and distance. It is slowly but steadily becoming a part of our everyday lives. Individuals who are members of this web community confess to checking their user accounts numerous times a day. A member of another social media site says “I’m addicted, can’t help myself!” What is it about Facebook that most people find trendy, interesting and so in-the-moment? Will it be a useful tool to help the millions of people in the world affected by recession?
For adolescents and teenagers, this hip social media site is just another way to constantly communicate openly about their lives, opinions, interests, and academics. It is the “lounge” where they can openly broadcast to their circle of friends what is going on inside their minds. Take for example my 16-year-old niece. She’s supposed to study for her English exam but instead, I went online only to see her on the status update page declaring “I won’t be wearing make-up. Like…forever! LOL! = P”. It makes sharing information in an open environment fun, which raises a lot of privacy and security issues with parents.
In the face of recession, Facebook acts as a shelter for those who have been laid off from work or for the individuals whose contracts who wouldn’t be renewed. These people are using the site as a place to look for jobs. This is one hell of a clever way to use something that had been initially launched as a venue for interaction of college students.
According to my buddy Dave Saunders from yoursocialbrand.com,”To grow your business you need to do more than merely ““be found.”” You need to connect to the people who need you and if you don’t have the opportunity to look that person in the eye and say “”I’m here to help you get what you want,”” you had better leave the right kind of bread crumb trail leading them to that conclusion.” Which are what exactly many professionals and businessmen uses Facebook for. It can assist many of those seeking a business opportunity through the power of referrals. It helps us create contacts to find and promote business prospects. Not all Facebook users are aware that the site has an advertising capability. It makes creating an online ad possible enabling users to broadcast their products within their Facebook circle of friends.
Social networks like Facebook offers so many things to an ordinary citizen that should be wisely taken advantage of. We should look at Facebook and other social media networks as well, with a fresh perspective. It is more than what most perceive as the newest way to share ideas and connect with people over the world. It is a lot more than the gaming applications, quizzes, and tags you can fool around with on the site. Let us use it to our advantage to beat the tough economic times ahead of us.
