There will always be new trends when it comes to more or less anything, and a large chunk of the consumers will probably follow what the new trend is.  Of course, if you want to capitalize on what that new food trend is, you have to go with the flow.  Restaurants will need to adjust to what the consumers want, and the chefs, too, will also have to be creative if they want to be on the right track.

Right now, there are many food and food industry predictions that are circulating around the Internet about what the consumers will want for the year 2011.  As you will see, most of them will just be a continuation of what the trend was for 2010.  The only difference is that the “food experts” think that the need and want for these new trends are going to be much stronger this coming new year.

I took a close look at what the various bodies out there are predicting will be the food trends of 2011. As a result, I predict that the major trends that are going to emerge in 2011 are as follows:

  1. An upgrade to the adult beverages – food trends 2011.
  2. Food on the road- food trends 2011.
  3. The farmer’s turn to take center stage in the food industry – food trends 2011.
  4. Why join the social media bandwagon – food trends 2011?
  5. Korean-inspired street food craze – food trends 2011.
  6. Dine in luxury at affordable prices – food trends 2011.
  7. Restaurant survival tips during the recession – food trends 2011.
  8. Emerging restaurants in the year 2011 – food trends 2011.
  9. Comfort food going homestyle and gourmet.
  10. Chefs partnering up with convenience stores.
  11. Healthier food choices for the coming year.

However fascinating and exciting these new trends may be, we still have to always consider the “unknown.”  Remember, not all consumers are going to be caught up in these new trends, and, likewise, not all chefs and restaurants are going to make changes in their services simply because somebody said “these will be what the consumers will want for the next year.”  These trends are just something that are emerging and are increasingly becoming very popular in the food industry right now.  So it will be very interesting to see if all or any are going to come to fruition for 2011 or if it is just going to be a passing fade that is going to be short-lived.

On the other hand, as a chef or a restaurant owner, you would naturally want to offer what the consumers want.  For this reason, you may have to make a few adjustments to cater to these needs and wants of the consumers in the hopes of increasing your client base and, in the long run, your profits as well.

In the succeeding articles, you will see tips and advices on what chefs can do to cater to the new demands in the food industry.  Hopefully, you will find some tips here that will not only make you a success at accommodating these new trends but will also make you one of the most creative and innovative chefs in the industry.

That is, of course, if you want to get involved with trends.
