Healthy Snack Food for Your Kids

Kids today are into loads of things that parents can’t even begin to understand. They had their Nintendo DS, PSP, Wii, and Xbox 360. They play games and they talk online with their buddies. The last thing that parents want their children to take for granted is their diet. So, how can parents make sure of their kid’s diet? Why, make yummy but healthy snacks for their children, that’s how.
You have to avoid junk food with empty calories, preservatives, and a lot of sugar. The key to a healthy snack food for kids is to make it sweet. You can allow your kids to eat naturally sweet food like fruits. Why not give your child a banana topped with peanut butter. You can also prepare a frozen banana dipped in yogurt, and rolled around a breakfast cereal of your choice.
Speaking of cereal. Cereal is also a very healthy snack with or without milk. Cheerios is a good cereal to pack for your kids during breaks in school. You can put it in a colorful box or wrap it in a cool food napkin. It’s all good. Remember that cereal has bran, wheat and a host of other healthy vitamins and minerals packed in, that is a great benefit for your child’s health.
Now, if your kid loves that salty taste of junk foods, you can again defeat these cravings with substitution. You can substitute nuts and sun flower seeds over salty junk food. Even children love to eat walnuts and almonds instead of some unhealthy munchies. Nuts are great for the protein intake of kids, it builds their muscles and keeps them energize all throughout the school day.
You can be adventurous when it comes to your kid’s food, but you have to be creative in order for them to enjoy their snack. You can make “ants on a log.” This snack is basically celery stick dipped in peanut butter or low-fat cream cheese, sprinkled with raisins. Now it looks like a log with a lot of ants. It looks fun, whimsical, and most of all, delicious.
When it comes to imagination, you can’t go wrong with tasty looking snacks. But when it comes to simplicity you can’t go wrong with apple slices topped with peanut butter. Just staring at it is very enticing and the smell of it is a blend of fruity and creamy goodness. Only the most finicky child will shun this delight.
Going kabob is also a great way to entice your kid to eat healthy. You can find pretzels and put small cheese cubes and grapes to put in it. Always remember to use low fat cheese for your awesome “kid’s kabob.”
Here are points to remember. Your kids want something colorful, fun, tasty, and sweet. Be imaginative when coming up with recipes. There are as lot of kid snack recipes online that you can peruse. Be persistent with your decision to turn your kids away from unhealthy food. Junk food is habit forming, but it can be countered with healthy substitutes. Think about it. If you can’t eliminate the habit, then substitute another habit.
