In any forms of businesses, human resources department has always been an essential part in their operations. For what is a firm without people who operate it? Be it one that provides services or that produces products or goods.
Though establishments today are now advanced and almost are fully-automated, all of them will not be successful or even, not function without the brains that operate, plan, organize, control, and direct them. They are known as the human resources (HR).
HR exists in every single form of business from small-scale to large-scale enterprises. It can not be excluded from the scene because ‘a business is not a business without it’.
HR can either pertain to the people who are ‘directly’ or ‘indirectly’ involved in doing the products/goods and providing services. Those who are directly involved, often called direct labor, includes factory workers, your hairstylist, and the like. Whereas, those who are indirectly involved often called indirect labor, includes the management, administration, and the likes.
Mostly, when a majority of the people, who are outside a firm or an establishment, are asked about a picture of ‘workforce’ thought of people, who are only involved in a group that assembles the product just like in any manufacturing firms. But it is not always like that. They can simply be the security guard in a restaurant, a maintenance worker in a factory or the waiter/waitress that serves your food.
On the other light, what is the function of Human Relations in a food establishment?
HR plays a very important role in a food establishment. From the management to the group of crew and personnel who prepares the food inside the kitchen of a fast-food chain to the food servers themselves. These establishments may be food manufacturing firms and or restaurants, bars, and fast foods.
Customers have many angles to look at when choosing a place where they will eat so as with the HR in improving aspects of their job. The customers primarily consider the taste of the food, affordability, cleanliness and more meticulously to what is not concretely seen, the SERVICE. That is where the HR takes the critical job.
A food establishment becomes appealing to the customers when their criteria are met regarding the food they serve and the service they render.
How effective HR can be in a food establishment?
It takes a lot of furnishing before aspects of a business become satisfying particularly with food establishments. They do not only produce products (the food they serve) or only provide services – but BOTH.
Once you have worked on the physical and other aspects of the establishment, start improving your service.
Here are some tips on how HR of food establishments can have an edge among its contenders.
For the personnel:
- Smile. Customers feel good when you exude positive vibes. Expose your optimism by flashing your smile.
- Be courteous all the time. Customers are very human. They like to be shown and treated with courtesy and respect. There is no greater discourtesy than not listening to a customer. So be polite when talking with them.
- Be tact. Tact means the ability to handle the onion-skinned customer so that he/she will be encouraged to come back to your store. Learn the art of saying the proper thing so as not to offend them.
- Act accordingly and promptly. When customers have complaints, you should attend to them promptly. Try your best to give them the utmost satisfaction. Prompt attendance to complaints wins the customer back to your store.
Presence of these suggestions is likely to bring a good impression on your store. Loyalty and continued patronage of customers are good evidences of an effective Human Relations in a food establishment.
