How to Keep a Chef Happy and Fit

Being a chef is not for everyone. It is more of a vocation than a profession. Most chefs become chefs not because they want to earn large amounts of money but because this is what makes them happy. Yet, being a chef is not easy either. It is very stressful and there could possibly come a time when even the most passionate chefs would forget why they chose to be such.
Nevertheless, a chef’s passion can still be rejuvenated. It is also important that chefs do not only stay happy but fit too. If they are fit, they will be more efficient in doing their job that usually makes them happy. Besides, being unfit and physically weak can aggravate the feeling of being discontented. These are ways to make and keep chefs happy, and even fit!
Stay away from the kitchen!
A change of environment is always a welcome relief. Kitchen may symbolize stress and confusion for chefs and will not help at all to uplift their feelings. Besides, kitchen means food and would not necessarily mean fitness for you!
Do not cook.
Basically, the same principle as staying out of the kitchen, this means restraining yourself from doing or seeing anything that has gotten to do with your job. Stop cooking! Stop anything that reminds you of stress. A better alternative is just eat out, or may be use your charms and ask your loved one/s, friend/s, and/or housemate/s to cook for you.
If indeed you still have to cook, do it mixed with pleasure. Do it with purpose – a personal purpose and the one that you would enjoy, not to earn your keep. Cook for friends. Better yet, cook with friends. Make sure you do this without time pressure, just cook leisurely and enjoy whatever comes out of it.
Cook for the needy.
If you have enough time and resources, you might also consider cooking for the less fortunate. Yes, this could be very, very stressful, may even be more tiring than your everyday work. However, the rewards of satisfaction and happiness to know that you have been able to help are enough to quench all that stresses.
Do some enjoyable physical activities.
Think up of physical activities you have been wanting to do…and actually do them! These activities entail the focus of both your mind and your body. They will thus take your mind off stressful thoughts, especially work-related ones. Likewise, they will potentially, especially if possibly made into a habit, make your body fitter.
Do some “leisurely” activities.
Physical activities are not the only ones that can make us happy and fit even the seemingly slow and leisurely ones. Take for instance the game of chess. It has been suggested that playing chess actually helps us get slimmer. Those hours of wringing your brains for smart moves turn out to be helpful in burning your fats too! Therefore, you get relaxed mind, relaxed body, and happy and fit self!
Devise creative new recipes.
Maybe the very root of all your discontentment as chef is that life has become monotonous. You cook the same dishes all the time. You do not have your creative juices flowing. Well, make them flow again. You do not have to do it at work. You can experiment new recipes at home. Alternatively, in connection with the second tip, you can make your friends and loved ones try them first before you cook them at work. Do not forget to take their constructive criticisms to make sure you will be serving the best for your clients. Make them healthy too, for your more fit self as well as for your increasingly health-conscious clientele.
With all these, I know you can definitely be the happiest and most fit chef ever.
