Australian fans of the Japanese cooking show, Iron Chef, will be pleased to know that the show has been adapted by the Seven Network for the Australian audiences.  This announcement followed after reports that the said network had bought the rights to produce the Australian version of the stylised reality cooking show.

Japan’s Iron Chef pioneered this reality cooking show.  It ran for 6 years, from 1993 to 1999.  The show was such a huge hit in Australia especially among SBS viewers who did not mind the dubbing.  The original iron chef, Hiroyuki Sakai, appeared recently in the highly-rated cooking series, MasterChef Australia.

Admittedly, Seven Network may have to face an uphill battle just to get this show off the ground.  Iron Chef Britain failed to make it big in the United Kingdom when it was launched this year.  Iron Chef USA also experienced the same fate.  It only ran two episodes before the show was yanked off air.

Casting is underway and the series is scheduled for production in the next few weeks, possibly this month of September.  The production will be handled by Shine Australia. This is the same production company behind the amazingly hit cooking show, MasterChef Australia.  Seven Network’s action though in recent weeks have fueled speculation that the network is trying to poach chefs and contestants from the highly-rated cooking series.  A numbef of celebrity chefs have been approached by the network to be part of the Iron Chef Australia.

The show will reportedly adapt the premise similar to Japan’s, Britain’s and United States’ version of the Iron Chef.  Basically, contestants will be competing in the kitchen and their culinary creations will be judged by a panel of three judges consisting of discerning Aussie food critics.

The show will feature three Aussie chefs, Guillaume Brahimi, Guy Grossi and Neil Perry, who will be competing against other aspiring cooks in a timed cooking battle.  This show is not for faint-hearted cooking amateurs.  Participants will be facing tough competitors and challenges.

The show will feature a kitchen-stadium set where contenders will face and challenge one another.  There will be audiences who will have front-row seats inside the studio.  Every challenger will be expected to create four sumptuous and unique dishes in just one hour.  He or she will be competing against one of the Iron Chefs.

Seven Network reported that their casting website has already received more than 100,000 hits since it was launched.  They are very optimistic about the results.  Acceptance of applications will end on September 6, 2010.  Now, the question remains, who will reign supreme in Iron Chef Australia?
