It is easy to know other people – know their strengths and weaknesses. However, it is it hard to know yourself. It is easy to have control over other people and be the master of them, but it is harder to be the master of your own self. Everyone wants to view themselves in the best light. No one wants to be viewed as a failure. Unfortunately, everyone has weaknesses, but people tend to ignore their weaknesses. Instead, they focus on their strengths. This works for some people, but this often backfires on others.  The truth is that it pays more to learn how to overcome weaknesses.

Overcoming Weaknesses

It cannot be denied that you have your own failings. You cannot leave it at that, however.  You cannot just say, “I have my Achilles’ heel” and ignore the same. You need to learn how to overcome weaknesses.  If you are not good at doing something, you can spend time and energy into gradually developing your skills. For instance, if you are far from being a great cook, you can practice your cooking skills and take cooking lessons in order to learn how to whip up a great meal. You may not become a chef but you can at least become a good cook. At least, people will not beg off from eating what you’ve concocted. The more you work at being a better cook the better you will be at cooking.

Use Other People’s Strength

What if you don’t know how to overcome weaknesses? What if no matter how hard you try, you simply can’t defeat your failings? Improving one’s weaknesses does not happen overnight.  It takes a lot of time and effort and sometimes, you can’t afford to wait until you have overcome your limitations. Unfortunately, there are things that you can’t possibly learn no matter how hard you try. There will be times when you wouldn’t know where to start.

In this case, your option is to use other people’s strength. If you are a poor administrator, you can’t risk failing at the expense of other people. You need to get someone who can help you at your job. Seek someone else’s assistance. Look for someone who is great at administration to help you perform your responsibilities. In time, you will develop your administration skills and you wouldn’t need another person’s assistance.

Nobody’s perfect. However, you can learn how to overcome weaknesses. It may take time, but with a lot of practice, you can eventually turn your weak spots into strengths.
