Know what’s in.  The Michelin Guide or Le Guide Michelin has roll out the 2011 New York City restaurant guide.  NYC has not lost its culinary charm.  Michelin has awarded 57 New York restaurants the much coveted Michelin star.  It is definitely a red day in New York.

Le Guide Michelin originated in France.  It started offering recommendations and ratings on eateries, food establishments and hotels around the world in 1900.  It published its first NY Restaurant Guide in 2005.  Since then, restaurants in New York have all aimed to win their own stars.  This is not an easy feat.  They need to meet the expectations of the Michelin inspector assigned to them.  Unfortunately, it is hard to know when an inspector is checking out your establishment.

A team of anonymous but famous inspectors actually put together the recommendations and determine who gets the stars.  These inspectors actually undergo strict and rigid training in order to come up with this recommendation.  They are also required to sign a confidentially agreement before they can actually report on a certain establishment.  Every member of the team is given specific assignments or establishments that they will report on.

Restaurants can earn a star, two stars or three stars.  The ratings are as follows:

One-star restaurants are generally very good restaurants in their own category.  One can expect to enjoy a high-standard cuisine in these restaurants.

Two-star restaurants offer even more exceptionally prepared cuisine.  One can only describe their food as excellent.  These restaurants are worth the detour.  One can expect and enjoy carefully prepared and skillfully cooked food.  The service is of exceptional quality as well.

Three-star restaurants are exceptional.  They are definitely worth the journey.  The cuisine is excellent.  One can expect superb meals from these restaurants.  Dishes are perfectly executed.  Chefs only use the best ingredients.  These restaurants also offer the best service.

All 2010 Michelin-starred New York restaurants retained their stars.  No two or three-starred restaurant was dropped from the guide.  Unfortunately, Perry Street and Insieme were dropped from the list and lost their sole star.  On the other hand, Chef Table entered the guide and received two stars.

The city has remarkably dealt with the recession.  It has more restaurants falling in the Bib Gourmand category than any other city in the world.  This category includes restaurants that offer meals that cost less than $40.  There are actually 95 selections.  .  In comparison, Paris has 65 and London has 62.
