Prepare to Lower Your Grocery Bills
Do you like this post?
It is not uncommon that you find yourself overpaying during grocery trips. If you are single, you can’t seem to quit picking up snacks here and there. If you are grocery shopping with your family, that is another difficulty. Your kids will point to a lot of stuff that you don’t really need. What are you going to do to cut back on grocery bills in these hard economic times? Read on.
Make a list of the most essential grocery items
That is right. It may seem easy at first, but the truth is, it is quite complicated to list your essential needs and stick with it when you are in the grocery store. All you really need to do is ask yourself what is it that you really need every day. Do you need cereal, rice, soap, fruits, and vegetables? Ask yourself what items is it do you need that you can’t live without day by day.
Now stick to the list.
Unfortunately there is no way you can stick to your list without discipline. I know how bad the call of that potato chip can be when you are on a strict essential only list. So have a little discipline and a “can do” attitude if you want to stick to the list.
Check sections of the grocery store
When you are in a grocery store there may be sections on the floor that you don’t know about. These sections may have several items that you need but at a lower price. So check out other sections of the store before you start putting items in your shopping cart.
Here’s a caveat, though.
If you are buying consumables then check out the expiration date of the items. Sometimes these “near expiration” items are brought to these cheap sections. They are not spoiled or rotten goods, but they are near expiration date. This may be good or bad. Depending on when you need to consume the item.
Buy quality products
A simple tip but very helpful. Sometimes you may be tempted to buy cheaper brands not knowing that it is better and cost-effective to buy high quality brands.
For example, some cheaper brand detergent soaps have chalk in them to make them seem robust to the consumer. Most quality detergents don’t have any chalk in them. See. There is a reason why some brands cost a bit more.
The coupon is your friend
You see them in newspapers, magazines, and sometimes they are handed down in the grocery store. Take advantage of this. Sometimes they are 10% to 50% off of the actual retail price of the items you need. The key words here are “items you need.”
Avoid coupons for junk food and unnecessary items.
End of the line
Whether it is a year of depression or not we all should live within our means. This adage is a tried and true advice. So if you really want to cut back and save some money then you have to live on essentials. You can get some luxuries once and a while, but you have to be smart when buying items.
Follow the tips above and you are guaranteed to save a little money during grocery trips.
In life, just be prepared, be a smart buyer, and live within your means. You will be okay no matter what the economic situation will be.
