Let us say that you have the necessary culinary skill to mix and blend ingredients, and let us also say that you have the eye to plate your food creatively and appetizingly. Now, can you honestly say that you have the makings of a top chef?
No. In fact, these alone will not get you to the top as you need to have more qualities suitable to a top chef. So, what are these qualities?
Friendly
A top chef should be a personable one, particularly since he will be dealing with a lot of people all the time. A good publicity will earn him clients, while a negative publicity will lose him some. For this reason, he should be friendly to all the people he meets and deals with, including his kitchen staff, delivery people, customers, etc.
Creative
Being creative does not only encompass the creation of new dishes or the presentation of an attractive plate, but this also means the creativity in dealing with your kitchen staff. Not all people are the same, especially when it comes to their temperaments, so you have to know how to balance things out and make sure that you still end up treating each staff with respect.
Able to Take Criticisms Well
Chefs will receive negative comments from time to time, especially from food critics and even customers. For this reason, he should be able to take criticisms well and act on it positively, not the other way around. A chef is ale to turn a negative situation into a positive learning one and think of criticisms as something to improve upon.
Flexible
Food trends will always change, and you will need to be flexible in order to go with the trend. Not only will you be able to improve your culinary skills through learning how to adapt to changes, but you will also be able to improve yourself as a person as you learn from the changes.
Of course, this is certainly not an overnight thing. You will not wake up one morning and say that you have mastered a new skill. Instead, this will take a lot of trials and errors, a lot of effort from your part, and a lot of logged-in hours to be able to come up with the perfect solution needed to adapt to the changes. By being flexible, you are allowing yourself to benefit from continued education.
Able to Multi-Task
Chefs do not only cook and create dishes, but they should also be able to multi-task. A restaurant kitchen has a very fast-paced atmosphere, so it is important that you should be able to keep up with the hustle and bustle of the kitchen while, at the same time, keeping everything organized and under control. Aside from juggling chaos and order, you will also need to have a very clear head to make smart decisions.
Heated arguments, complications, and disasters can be best avoided if you know how to make appropriate split-second decisions that will control the problem quickly. As stated above, restaurant kitchens have volatile environments where arguments and fights can erupt quickly, and it will only be through your sound judgment and right decisions that these can be nipped in the bud.
The same happens to be true, too, when it comes to accidents such as fire. In cases of fire, it cannot be denied that confusion can erupt just as easily as fire does, so it will really take a cool-headed person to be able to act first.
Lastly, a chef who is able to multi-task will not only have a kitchen that runs smoothly but will also be able to monitor everything that is going on in his kitchen while doing his various other duties and responsibilities as well.
Motivated
Motivation, desire, and determination are very much needed if you are only starting out in your culinary career. Cliché as it may sound, but you will only be successful in your chosen career if you have the motivation and the desire to become a successful chef. There will always be challenges that will steer you away from your chosen course, but through determination, you will be able to overcome these challenges. Remember, if you stick to your guns, you will be more than happy and proud of the results of a job well done.
Have a Good Business Sense
You are a chef not only because you are passionate about food but because you also want to make money out of it. For this reason, a top chef should have a good business sense. This includes knowing the basics in business like ordering food products. This should also include knowing how to appropriately stock food products to avoid spoilage and wastage.
With all these qualities, you are on your way of becoming a top chef who is more than capable of running all the aspects of a restaurant kitchen smoothly.

Really a great article on qualities of a chef which can make his chances of achieving that grade.
A good lesson for younger ones to develop those qualities which ultimately result in reaching that top chef!!!!!!!
