Coffee as an Antioxidant
Antioxidant is defined in Dictionary.com as “an enzyme or other organic substance, as vitamin E or beta carotene, which is capable of counteracting the damaging effects of oxidation in animal tissues.”
Simply put, oxygen can be dangerous to us as well. Oxidation can have a toxic reaction on the human body as well. We have natural defenses to the toxicity of oxygen, but it is not enough protection that we can just ignore the ill effects.
The most common effect of oxidation is aging or looking old. The reason for this is because oxygen can induce damage to body tissues. This is really one big contributor to aging, but it can also contribute to degenerative sickness like heart disease, cancer and other age related illnesses.
What coffee does is that it enhances our defenses against free radicals. Not only is it a delicious treat, it is also a very good antioxidant. This means that coffee can reduce the risk of coffee drinkers against cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Coffee and Your Memory

Coffee has what we all know is called caffeine. This caffeine helps perk up your mental alertness. Caffeine also helps in focusing attention to study if you are a student. Focus is the main problem in studying and coffee really helps draw your attention to what you are doing at hand.
Coffee Prevents Diabetes

Diabetes has become so prevalent like an epidemic. In 2000 there were hundred millions of people afflicted by this killer disease. This occurrence of diabetes is projected to double in 2025.
Good thing we have coffee to help prevent diabetes. It is a known fact that coffee reduces sensitivity to insulin probably because of the chlorogenic acid and magnesium found in coffee. There was a study in the Netherlands that showed men who drank 5 or more cups of coffee a day have a reduced risk of developing diabetes.
The Take Away
A lot of people have attributed coffee to nervousness or panic attacks. This may be true if you drink excessive amounts of it. The truth is, any good beverage like coffee, when taken in moderation can be beneficial for you.
In this case, scientific studies have proven that drinking two to four cups of coffee not only can really help pick you up in morning, but it also has special benefits for the health and well-being of your body.
