Since time is of the essence for people like you, my dear chefs, it is important that you know how to handle hectic schedules. We tend to speed up when we are in a difficult situation that sometimes, may result to a worse scenario than before. In the end, we will find out that we did not finish anything and what we have is a waste of time. Worse, it might turn out into a habit of cramming! That sounds bad, right?
Normally, we try to become a superhuman that can do multiple tasks at a time. We try doing things out of our checklist and ruin the scheduled activities for the day. Once you have prepared a schedule of your work, make sure you will have to stand firm here because you may find it tempting to drop everything and do less important tasks. It is indeed satisfying that we are convenient in our schedule even if it requires our every minute working.
Before you jump up to your next act, assure yourself you have the:
Energy. Our bodies are dominated by natural peaks and wanes of energy. We have different level of liveliness, like for instance, some people are zippy in the morning and some are zombies in the evening. A breakfast meal is a helpful way of storing energy enough to start the day. Level up! Tackle more when you are feeling up for it and keep it simple when you are not. Be certain that you reserve energy when your work is calling for highly flexible or strenuous movements. Rest and sleep at night to take back energy, which you will use the next day.
Motivation. Always believe in getting things done. Since it is a hectic schedule for you, it is good that you finish your tasks properly. There is no time to go back and change what you have done. Be inspired of your duty in the kitchen. Work should not feel like work. You love cooking, doing these dining stuffs, bringing new menus to customers, and all! Make your work a source of an expression of your passion. As you enjoy your cooking experience, you would never notice how busy you are! Say cheese! Never forget to smile for it will relieve you from stress and unwanted excitement.
Time. Schedule your work onslaught wisely. First, you will need to determine how much time you wish to work on your job. Weigh other vital stuffs you have to do aside from cooking, say for example, having lunch with your family or going to a gym. Do not launch into a lot of things when you are in a busy schedule. Again, stay firm with what you have prepared on your list for a particular day. If you are clear about your schedule, then you will find that other people will be more likely to treat your job with the respect it deserves.
Resources. When you’ve got a cake baking in the oven, and all the filthy storm window taken out, it is not a great time to discover you are out of Windex. Make sure you’ve got the tools you need to finish a job before you start it. You must take yourself – and your cooking career – seriously if you expect anyone else to so the same. Might as well, if you are not prepared for your work, it will cause you too much delay and your day will end up to such a mess.
Once you are used to working in a busy working schedule, you will find yourself effectively balancing various demands on your time and energy.
